About
The Calchakis is an Andean folk music group founded in France in 1960 by the Buenos Aires musician and painter Héctor Miranda (Calchay) and his wife Ana María Miranda (Huaÿta). They are considered one of the most important folk groups in Latin America , with more than 40 recordings under their belt. In 1964, through the mediation of Chilean folklorist Violeta Parra , the group is presented to the record company Arion, a label with which they would record their later albums. In 1969, the trio formed by Héctor Miranda, Nicolas Pérez González and Gonzalo Reig, joined the Chilean musician Sergio Arriagada and in 1970, the Argentine Rodolfo Dalera. In 1972 they interpreted the soundtrack of the film State of siege of Costa Gavras , composed by the Greek musician Mikis Theodorakis .

1 During its more than 50 years of existence, the Calchakis have taken their Latin American music through numerous stages in North America and Europe: from the Olympia Theater in Paris to the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico; from the Victoria Hall in Geneva to the Lisner Auditorium in Washington ; of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen at the Monumental Theater of Madrid . At present, the members of the group usually reside in France: Héctor Miranda, founder of the group, Sergio Arriagada, Enrique Capuano, Pablo Urquiza and Osvaldo Muslera.
