Sheppard is a six member Brisbane-based indie-pop band. Originally formed in 2009 as a duo consisting of siblings Amy and George Sheppard, they expanded by adding Jay Bovino in April 2011 before reaching their current six member state. They have released two singles to date and on extended play under their own label entitled Empire of Song. Their second single "Geronimo" has spent three weeks (as of 28 April 2014) at number one, putting an end to the 12 week run for Pharell Williams' single "Happy" for top spot honours, becoming the first Australian artist to do so in 20 months. Sheppard are the first independent act to hit the top of the ARIA singles chart in a decade with ‘Geronimo,’ and its 3-week reign makes it the longest independently released #1 ever.
